Category : Retrofit
Is your pool starting to show its age? If so, it’s time to think about renovating it.
Renovating your pool can be a delicate and a specialised business. It demands a certain level of expertise and a few specialised skills. This is why, before getting started, you should contact a respected professional. They will give you a full survey and inform you of exactly what is required.
In the meantime, and in order to enjoy your pool next spring, here are a few of our renovation tips.
Reduce your pool’s energy consumption
Replace your filter pump with a variable speed model. It offers better performance and much lower energy consumption than any other standard filter pump.
The pump is the cornerstone of your pool. 80% of the quality of the water in your pool depends on it, and this is what will guarantee you fresh, clean and clear water along with the necessary water treatment products. The idea is simple: the pump takes the dirty water from the pool, sends it through the filter which cleanses it of its impurities and then returns clean water back into the pool.
Variable speed pumps consume less energy and provide a higher quality of filtration.
Restyle your pool
If you want to ensure that your pool is watertight, change the lining. There are two types of pool lining available: liners and reinforced membranes. So which one should you choose?
Pool liners are made up of multiple PVC sheets. It adapts perfectly to any type of pool, and is suited to any size or shape. It’s also highly resistant and requires very little maintenance.
Reinforced membranes, however, are stronger and more resistant than liners and are manufactured onsite. They are made of woven polyester fibres, covered in layers of PVC, plus top surfaces. They are also thicker, and will guarantee the best possible water seal for your pool. Anti-algae and anti-UV treatment is also incorporated into the production process.
To choose the best type of lining for your pool, you need to take the following criteria into consideration: the depth of the pool, the colour and materials used on the coping area, the pool’s environment and the exposure to light.
In addition to the lining, you can also change your lighting and upgrade to LED, improve the access to the pool with a better-adapted ladder of even get some peripheral equipment.
The restyling will also depend on your own specific needs and expectations, so ask a professional for advice.
Cover and secure your pool
Is your cover too heavy, too difficult to use or just too worn out? Choose an automatic cover that suits your maintenance needs and your budget. Talk to a professional and discuss whether you need a slatted cover, a raised or low cover, a manual or automatic system... The choices are endless!
Keep your pool’s water in optimal condition
Equip your pool with an automatic cleaning robot. This will greatly assist in dispersing water treatment products as it moves around the pool and clean the surfaces too, even the waterline. However, it’s a good idea to treat your water with properly adapted water treatment products which are suited to your pool’s configuration and the temperature of your water. Skimmers are another essential tool. They skim the surface of the water and remove surface debris and impurities.
Heat your pool
Maybe you don’t have a heated pool? No matter what region you live in, a heated pool at a reasonable price is very much a possibility if you invest in a heat pump.
Now, time to get started with your renovation!
